Our Random Act of Activity

Victoria Square ground to a halt at 12.30pm on 27 July 2011 as people from across Birmingham showed just what an active city we live in.

Throughout the day residents emailed and tweeted their physical activities to http://beactiveday.posterous.com/ - a day-long blog recording how Birmingham is active all day, every day.

Thank you and goodnight

Birmingham Be Active Day has now drawn to a close. Thanks to everyone who took part as we proved this is a fit city not a fat city.

The wide range of activities you participated in on Wednesday July 27 2011 clearly shows there are many ways to stay fit and healthy here in Birmingham.

Many of the activities featured are free, so there really is no excuse.

Thank you for being active Birmingham.

Dancing to Be Active in Birmingham

Today me and my friend took part in the Macarena dance which took place in Victoria square outside the council house  and  this  was organised as part of the be active scheme to mark a year until the start of the Olmypics ( random act of activity) .

It was great to see so many people joining in and taking part in the Macerena dance and enjoying themselves. It was a great idea to show other people how active Birmingham can really be and the diffrent types of activities in which people can take part in whether this may be joining their local gym or out running on the road to be getting ready to participate in an organised race - such as the Birmingham Half Marathon which is due to take place in October.

However from today I  felt that more awareness  of the organised event of  random act of activity could of been done a few days prior to event in order to encourage  more random people around the Birmingham city centre to take part in the dance.

I also felt that the camera people could of had a few more interviews beforehand  with some of the people that were waiting around before hand prior to the event starting as I think this would of made more awareness on people's thoughts on a year mark until the start of the olmypics and what they do to keep active in and around Birmingham.

But overall me and my friend really enjoyed participating in the organised " be active event 2011/ 2012

  Many thanks again. Lois Archer
